We live in a world where a 3-hours R-rated drama can gross over 900 million at the box office.
It’s not a 3-hours action epic like Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, or a romantic drama like Titanic.
It’s a drama without action, in which most of the time people are just talking about the fate of humanity.
But people don’t care. They are rushing to see it.
And they are not going for a regular screen. No. They are going for the biggest screen possible.
How is it possible?
Two words: Christopher Nolan.
If you don’t know him (no way), he is the director of The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and lots of other phenomenal films.
He is one of the rarest directors that people are going to his movies only because of his name.
Yes, there are lots of amazing actors in Oppenheimer, like Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr. and Florence Pugh.
But as far as I know, people wanted to watch this movie not because it’s Oppenheimer, but because it’s “Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer”.
This is truly amazing.
Nolan’s power is something we are not seeing today.
Take a look at Interstellar (2014).
A very smart and sophisticated Sci-Fi drama, 169 minutes long.
It’s a movie that you really need to focus on, to follow everything that’s happening. It’s not just watching a movie for fun. It’s actually about activating your brain like you are in a science class.
And yet, the movie received incredible reviews and grossed over 670 million dollars.
Why?
Because people said “Hi!! It’s a Sci-Fi movie from Christopher Nolan! I HAVE to watch it!”
The same can be said about Inception (2010).
A very smart movie about dreams, Matrix style, that you have to watch a few times to understand it.
That movie grossed over 800 million dollars!
Time after time, Christopher Nolan proves his worth.
Trust me, this is the main reason why Oppenheimer grossed over 900 million dollars.
What’s next for Nolan?
He said he wants to do a James Bond movie, but while it’s exciting, I really hope he will give us another Sci-Fi original!
Christopher Nolan is the true hero of the cinemas!
